I am adding a few different posts to this site. In this time of plague I feel like writing a few cheerful articles that are not about climate change or pandemic or the sorry state of US politics. So I’m adding a few more cheerful posts here and there. To begin with: Cheer up with a free screen saver or a good book.
Below are 12 free screensavers. Download them by right-clicking or touch and hold.
All of these should be large enough for 16″ screens. Probably larger screens too.
If you want a larger image for any reason, let me know via the comments on this blog. Include your email address and I’ll email you a larger size image.
Below are twelve images to start with.
I’m also a big reader of all kinds of books. So I’m going to start recommending some of my favorite books also. Below the free landscape images are a couple of my favorite books.
These new posts will change, and hopefully get better, as I go.
Good books to stave off the bad times
Here is a very interesting book about Britain and Germany and the origins of the First World War in the early years of the 20th century. This book is about serious ideas, yet it is fun and interesting reading.
Personally, I find reading a good book is the best way to stave off boredom. And since I am retired, there is a bit of boredom in my life that needs staving. Maybe some of these books will help with the social isolation many of us are living in now.
I usually start out with more serious books in the morning. These are books like the “The Dreadnaught”, recommended above. And then I work down to easier and easier books as the day goes on and I get tireder and tireder. By 10 PM I’m often reading a Jack Reacher novel, my favorite escapist novels. I always tell myself, it really isn’t bad to read Reacher books because they are just the reincarnation of an old and very great myth, the Arthurian myth. And its true. More on this later.
Anyway, cheer up with a free screen saver or a good book in these depressing times. Above are 12 free screensaver and two good books.
